Damien McCluskey
About Damien
Damien is available at our Blackburn North studio on Thursdays from 4pm and Saturday morning - early afternoon.
Currently furthering his Classical Guitar performance studies at the Conservatorium of Music, University of Melbourne, Damien McCluskey has already accumulated a wealth of performance, recording and teaching experience, which he loves to share with his students.
Growing up in Townsville, North Queensland in a family of dedicated classical guitarists, Damien has been learning music his entire life, spending much of his childhood and teens in his parent’s music store and teaching studio. Immersed in this environment, Damien was thoroughly trained in classical guitar technique, performance and pedagogy by his family and subsequent tertiary teachers.
Damien understands everybody learns in their own way, and has their own personal goals when it comes to learning a musical instrument. He aims always to create a comfortable, positive and personalised learning experience and has successfully prepared many students for AMEB Performance, Music Theory examinations, and for tertiary auditions.
Damien is also passionate about duet and ensemble coaching, and uses music composition to help bridge the understanding of Music Theory and Aural skills with hands on music practice.
In 2019 Damien commenced a Bachelor of Music at Queensland Conservatorium of Music, Griffith University, double majoring in Classical Guitar Performance and Composition under the tutelage of renowned guitar virtuoso Karin Schaupp, and composer Gerard Brophy. He has volunteered extensively as guest director of the Townsville Guitar Orchestra, and is currently furthering his perfromance study at the University of Melbourne Conservatorium under the tutelage of Ken Murray.
In his spare time Damien has a keen interest in studying a range of musical cultures from around the world, volunteers with Vision Australia helping to Transcribe Music into Braille, and is a member of CFA Boronia Volunteer Fire Brigade.
