We prefer Zoom for our online lessons (but can use Skype, or FaceTime if you prefer).

Tips for Online Lessons

  • We’ll be sticking to your usual guitar lesson time each week, and following Victorian school term dates, as per usual.

  • Sticking to a regular time is far more effective and reliable for both of us.

  • Make sure your teacher has your email address - we will occasionally email you songs and exercises to print off.

  • Try to use a laptop or a large tablet if you can - bigger screens are better.

  • Prepare a quiet space where you can avoid distractions and interruptions. Avoid places where there will be pets and other people around and, it’s less disruptive at a time when there is less demand on the household internet speed.

  • Have a pencil and some paper ready, in case you want to take notes during your lesson of things we discuss

  • Please make sure your camera is properly set up.

    • Your teacher needs to be able to see your guitar, and both your left and right hands.

    • Make sure you can read your music without blocking the camera’s view.

    • If you are using a phone or tablet, make sure it is horizontal, not in portrait mode.

  • Be ready at least 5 minutes before your lesson starts to make the most of your time. It’s worth doing a small warmup practice first!

    • Camera and computer set up in the right spot

    • Music stand set up and books open.

    • Tune your guitar up - Parents may need to assist small children with this. If you’re not sure how to tune your child’s guitar, please ask your teacher to show you, that’s what we’re here for!

  • As always, keep that practice regular. A bit every day!

Software

  • Your teacher is happy to use Skype, Facetime or Zoom. We recommend Zoom if possible- as Skype is known to freeze or lag occasionally.

  • Please let your teacher know your preferred software and your username.

  • At your agreed upon time, an email will arrive with a Zoom invite link. Click this link to begin your lesson.

  • If disconnections occur, teacher will re-email the student to continue. Please wait and don’t try to call yourself.

  • Have a backup software ready. If zoom is laggy, sometimes switching to facetime or skype helps.

Cancellations/LATE POLICIES

  • Lessons need to strictly adhere to their half hour slots as we have lots of other people to teach! Unfortunately, if students delay lesson start times, we may not be able to give you extra time.

  • We can’t extend lessons if there is an interruption around the house. Try to be in a quiet place.

  • If the teacher is running late, the full allotted lesson time will be provided.

  • Minimum 24 hours notice is still required for canceling, or rescheduling a weekly lesson.

  • If significant internet connection issues occur to the point of the lesson being untenable, a makeup lesson will be arranged.

  • Cancellation of term bookings: four weeks notice is required
